A trippy adventure for family audiences, this ingenious one-hander features a lone boy, performed by Johnny Nasser, and a whole lot of glorious rubbish. From the supermarket aisle to the belly of a whale, Trash Alchemy is one person’s magnificent journey to change the way we live in the world.
Alchemy - The power or process of transmuting a common substance, usually of little value, into a substance of great value.
Trash Alchemy is a surreal adventure tale for family audiences, which sees our hero journey from a bizarre world of advertising bombardment and product overload, through polluted yet magical oceans to the creation of his own trash civilization on an island of flotsam and jetsam - it is a story of discovery and ingenuity and ultimately a tale of one person's magnificent journey to change the way we live in this world. The set, props and puppetry are made entirely from found and recycled/re-purposed materials, allowing us to discover the value of what we normally discard.
Loose Canon Arts has created work for the Sydney Festival, Carriageworks Children’s Festival, Singapore Comedy Festival, the Adelaide Fringe Festival and Casula Powerhouse's WOW Festival.
Loose Canon’s mission is to make bold and original productions that challenge and excite audiences across age groups, cultures and lifestyle. The Company aims to include and invite these diverse audiences to engage in the exploration of concepts, questions and ideas that have a contemporary global impact and an immediate local context.
The Company has created new work for young audiences for festivals including Sydney Festival, Carriageworks Children’s Festival and the Singapore Comedy Festival and toured extensively throughout Asia and the Middle East over the last 15 years.
Through collaborating with highly skilled and innovative designers, artists and composers they endeavour to constantly investigate new ways of making work which is poetic, dynamic, unsettling and delightfully absurd.
We hope Trash Alchemy starts a conversation amongst audiences of all ages about what we keep and what we throw away, and what actually makes life beautiful.
