Premiering at Sydney Festival 2022, The Last Shot sees composer Troy Russell explore his Gamillaroi ancestors’ stories in an evening of heart racing and beautiful, folk-like songs and storytelling. Based on true events, this is a musical tale of unbridled love and tragedy, from NSW’s First Peoples leading performing arts company.
Based on true events, The Last Shot is a musical tale of heart ache and tragedy in colonial times, shedding light onto the dark history of so-called Australia.
Star-crossed lovers Jimmy and Florrie take flight through Gomeroi Country, seeking refuge with strangers. After an eventful night of singing and dancing at the local camp, a foreboding event catapults these two lovers into a whirlwind of turmoil as the audience follows a tracker in pursuit for revenge.
From romance to chaos, permeated with truth and honesty as composer Troy Russell explores the tribulations of his own ancestor's stories, set to an experimental score with a folk twist.
The Last Shot in further development for 26/27 touring
Following a COVID-affected development ahead of its Sydney Festival premiere season in 2022, The Last Shot is being further developed to take on the road in 26/27. Suited to intimate spaces and town halls as well as not-too-large pros arch stages, there is potential for local musicians to be part of the band in the show, and for the show to be followed by a live music set to round off the evening.
