The Girl Who Glows

Written by Jo Turner and Zeeko
Directed by Jo Turner

A genre busting, entertaining piece of political, rock 'n' roll music theatre for the whole family! This new work by Zeeko and Jo Turner brings to life a world of magical bio-luminescence with eye-catching fluorescent puppetry. With plenty of twists and turns and songs and jokes, it’s joy-filled, playful and just a little bit scary.

"Delightful children’s theatre that holds young and old alike in awe."

ABOUT THE SHOW

The Girl Who Glows is an awesome musical adventure about a girl who glows a bit more brightly than anyone else. It’s for family audiences or school groups.

It's a socially conscious, funny, uplifting story about an imaginary girl called Luna. In her world it’s getting darker every single day, but the adults are pretending it isn't. Luna knows though because she glows. She goes on an improvised trans-Australian journey of discovery to solve the problem of the darkness.

There are rapping platypuses, operatic tortoise frogs, mystical curlews and a wonderland of bioluminescent light. To end the story she needs your help. But only if you're a kid. Grown-ups have caused enough trouble already.

REVIEWS

“Delightful children’s theatre that holds young and old alike in awe… [a] socially conscious narrative that exudes charm and a serious message for today’s younger generation.

"Zeeko’s magical blend of musical virtuosity, melodic songs and comical characterization keeps the action moving.

“With its entertaining blend of comedy, music and song, The Girl That Glows is an ideal winter holiday treat for young and old alike.”

Peter Wilkins, Canberra Critics’ Circle

“Delightfully silly humour, live music, glorious lights and a story designed to wake interest in the natural world.

“Rather than preaching environmentalism, writer and director Jo Turner aims to inspire the audience to think for themselves… Use of objects as props and the way the characters build on the story together is reminiscent of how children do imaginative roleplay.”

Cathy Bannister, Stage Whispers

about the creators

Zeeko entertain and educate children with music. Here they combine with theatre maker Jo Turner to add narrative and visuals. Created over a multi-year devising process, the show is a genre busting, piece of political pop theatre for family audiences. The musicians are wireless and mobile. Using the latest in audio and video technology we have created a vivid world of deceptive simplicity.
