Are You Pulling My Leg? 2024

Showcasing some of Australia’s funniest comedians with disability or chronic illness, this raucous accessible comedy event boasts a line-up of award-winning performers with entertaining and uncensored insights into disability and oh-so-much more!

This thoroughly entertaining comedy show breaks through the barrier to enhance access for the performers as well as audiences. It’s Auslan-interpreted and live captioned so that everyone can get the punchlines and, hilarious jokes aside, at its heart this show is about access and inclusion.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Showcasing some of Australia’s funniest comedians with disability or chronic illness, this raucous accessible comedy event boasts a line-up of award-winning performers with entertaining and uncensored insights into disability and oh-so-much more!

With razor-sharp wit and undeniable charm, The Are You Pulling My Leg? line-up brings to the stage hilarious and uncensored insights into disability. From awkward encounters to side-splitting observations that cut to the quick, no subject is off-limits. Venturing much further than disability, their quick quips highlight the many facets of their lives, relationships, experiences and personalities.

Discover for yourself that disabled comedians are just as funny as non-disabled comedians! The biggest joke is that they don’t always get equal access to gigs, so support this show, have a laugh and help make a difference. It’s that easy!

PACKAGE INCLUDES VENUE DISABILITY TRAINING

Accessible Arts is a leading disability, access and inclusion training provider for the Arts and Culture sector.

This show is packaged to include two expert, disability-led workshops for up to 4 venue staff members, with additional spots available to purchase. These 90-minute workshops, delivered online, are designed to build disability confidence and enhance awareness of access and inclusion. Training is to take place before the comedy presentation so that new skills can be put into practice, and any additional questions for Accessible Arts can be answered

Workshop 1: Disability Confidence Training Specifically designed for arts, culture and events workers, this introductory workshop is all about helping you and your team improve how you connect with and support the 1 in 5 Australians with disability or who are d/Deaf. Discover practical solutions for making your organisation disability confident and learn about identifying and mitigated access barriers to help deliver inclusive and accessible arts and culture programs.

Workshop 2: Accessible Festivals and Events Covering everything from planning and programming to ticketing and front of house, this workshop has been designed by arts experts and festival-goers with lived experience of disability to help you access the full potential of your events.

Additional training can also be arranged. Available courses include Accessible Marketing and Communications, How to be a Good Ally, Being Accessible Online, and Accessible Exhibition Design.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Accessible Arts' partner on this project, Crips and Creeps, also offer comedy workshops which run for 2 hours. Please note comedy workshops are priced separately.

FROM THE CREATORS

Disability access in the comedy world is rare, that’s why I created Crips and Creeps. It provides an accessible space for comedians and audiences alike where inclusion is at the heart of the show and all people can feel safe and welcome.
