Based in Redfern, Arts on Tour is the most prolific performing arts touring organisation in Australia and the peak body for touring in NSW. We are widely recognised for leading on best practice in touring, and reach over 100,000 audience members each year.
Arts on Tour plays a pivotal role in the touring sector and the performing arts sector more broadly. Our core service is working with NSW-based producing companies and presenting venues nationally to develop and deliver tours to communities large and small across Australia. Our program also includes events and initiatives that build touring capacity across the sector, and maximise the impact of touring productions in the communities we work with.
In the last four years AOT has focused on increasing the diversity of the productions we tour. Building on our successes to date, developing a more diverse touring sector is a key goal of AOT’s 2021-2024 Strategic Plan.
We are seeking two new Directors to join the Board and support Arts on Tour to realise its vision over the coming years. As a service organisation, AOT’s Constitution requires stakeholder representation on the Board, and we currently have two vacant representative positions – a regional NSW presenter and a regional NSW producer. The requirements for each of these roles are outlined below.
To support our key goal of further increasing the diversity of the work we tour and the touring sector as a whole, we especially encourage applications from First Nations people, people with disability, and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
As both positions represent regional stakeholders, ideally candidates will also live in regional NSW. However, candidates with a history of working regionally but currently not living regionally will be considered.
1. Regional NSW Presenter
This Directorial position represents the needs and aspirations of NSW regional presenters and regional audiences. Relevant experience includes programming, marketing or management roles for organisations including regional performing arts centres, voluntary presenting organisations, regional arts organisations and local councils. The ideal candidate will have a sound grasp of the regional landscape and regional audiences, as well as the role of regional touring from a programming and audience perspective.
2. Regional NSW Performing Arts Maker/Producer
This Directorial position represents the needs and aspirations of NSW independent producers, producing organisations and performing arts makers living and working in regional NSW. Relevant experience includes producing, making or touring new work, and working at a regional organisation in a producing capacity. The ideal candidate will understand the process of developing and presenting new work, and will have a sense of the needs of regional audiences and the landscape as a whole, as well as the role of touring within it.
As a volunteer Board Director, you will have a passion for the arts and value the importance of regional access to a diverse offering of high quality arts experiences. You will be available for four board meetings each year and be willing to make a contribution for at least a two year term.
